Description: The Energy Management and Monitoring Avatar (EMMA) is a mobile app for the SIM Home project that guides users through the plug load devices in their home. Featuring a unique interface consisting of a virtual assistant with a human-like appearance, EMMA strives for providing users a different experience, while making them aware of how to improve their energy usage at home. One of the key features that differentiate EMMA from other energy monitoring applications is the use of an embodied character to provide user’s engagement. EMMA, with the ability to display usage and energy charts, controlling the power, or providing real-time tailored feedback, gives the user a unique experience in the crucial area of saving energy at home.
Status: The mobile app was implemented as an iOs native app using Apple Xcode and Swift, and the interface is improved for iOs table devices, i.e. iPads. EMMA is currently showcased as part of the SIMHome demonstration on the 4rth floor of Calit2. The overall structure for the EMMA code allows for a complete organization for the developer to add new features and edit existing ones.
